Founded in 1989, Project Mala is a registered charity in both the USA and UK. It is an action program for the elimination of child labor in the carpet weaving industry through primary and secondary education as well as community outreach. Since its inception, Project Mala has worked to educate children from over 45 rural villages throughout Uttar Pradesh, fostering literacy and empowerment among children previously subjugated by exploitative labor practices. The organization funds and operates nine schools throughout India’s carpet belt. As a Patron of the organization, Madeline Weinrib is proud to support Project Mala and its initiatives. Madeline has witnessed the good work that Project Mala is doing and feels that they are the most effective charity in the region in regards to their funding and commitment.
