Art Production Fund (APF) is launching its WOW (Works on Whatever) series at the Madeline Weinrib Atelier, ABC Carpet & Home, with the WOW (Works on Carpet) collection of area rug/wall hangings and wall to wall carpets by designed by contemporary artists.
WOW (Works on Carpet) is the first product collection in the WOW series. APF invites leading visual artists to participate in this project and as a result explore a new medium and format for their work. Unlike the hand woven textiles of the past, these fine art editions use cutting edge printing and manufacturing techniques to create machine made monumental artworks; affordable and conceptually rigorous within a contemporary framework.
WOW is a unique design collection; material, method, large quantities and accessible prices make the products available to a broad and diverse audience. Area rugs, which can also be hung on the wall as a tapestry, are sold in limited editions, with prices starting at $3000. Wall to wall designs are produced in unlimited quantities, and can be installed as traditional wall to wall carpeting or cut and bound as area rugs. APF acts as a philanthropic entrepreneur, with revenues from sales profiting both the artists and APF, thus facilitating our program of supporting artists’ projects and visions as well as expanding popular interest in contemporary art. ABC is the premier retail venue for WOW.
Madeline Weinrib has exhibited her paintings internationally, curated a group show for Art in General, and was represented by DeChiara Stewart Gallery in New York. Several years ago, sensing a gap in the carpet industry, she began to create innovative carpets that mirror exciting new concepts in art and design. The great granddaughter of ABC Carpet’s founder, Madeline opened her Atelier on the 6th floor in 2004, as a retail venue for her expanding design vocabulary, which includes Ikat textiles, limited-edition chairs, pillows, and carpetbags. Her showroom also features a selection of works by other contemporary artists and designers, making the Atelier a natural partner for Art Production Fund’s WOW (Works on Carpet) series.
APF is a non profit organization dedicated to facilitating ambitious projects by contemporary artists, reaching new audiences and expanding public participation and understanding of contemporary art. APF was co-founded in 2000 by Yvonne Force Villareal and Doreen Remen. Past projects include: SHOW, by Vanessa Beecroft, Solomon R. This partnership represents a crossover first for Durkan from its niche in hotels, resorts and other hospitality installations to residential flooring. Manufactured in Dalton, GA, Durkan’s print carpets are prized for their intricate patterns, lush colors and durability.
